Remix goes global!
Tuesday, 07 September 2010 15:59

Remix Magazine’s annual New Zealand fashion edition is on sale on Thursday this week, and at 404 pages it’s the biggest local magazine in the country. But the even bigger news is that renowned international magazine distributors Comag have picked the title up for worldwide distribution.

Remix will now be available in the US, UK, Europe and Australia as well as across New Zealand. Comag are the distributors of some of the most respected fashion titles in the world including i-D, Love, V, Another, Dazed & Confused and many others. This partnership will see Remix sitting alongside those international titles, which is wonderful news not only for the Remix team, but also all of the contributors and advertisers whose work and brands appear in the magazine and for the readers, who can expect an international-quality read every issue.

At a massive 404 pages, there is no local magazine that comes close to the luxurious look and feel of Remix. Within the many pages of this special New Zealand fashion issue, you will find:

* In-depth interviews with nine of New Zealand’s top designers: Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester, Murray Crane, Cybele, Trelise Cooper, WORLD, Zambesi, Nom*D & Helen Cherry.

* 132 pages of spring fashion.

* Samantha Hayes, Antonia Prebble, Dai Henwood and Jay Reeve shot exclusively for Remix wearing their favourite New Zealand labels.

* Profiles of five fashion scene influencers: Dan Gosling, Lucy Marr, Martin Andrews, Alana Taylor & Des Rusk.

* Prominent New Zealand artists Lonnie Hutchinson and Reuben Paterson interview each other on the challenges of being an artist during a recession and making social statements through art.

* Interviews with Mark Ronson, Brooke Fraser, Rose McIver, Julia Deans, Claire Duncan, Miami Horror and much, much more!

Remix Magazine New Zealand fashion issue is on sale Thursday 9 September.

Advance copies are available from Mag Nation Ponsonby Rd, Black Box Grey Lynn, The Department Store Takapuna, Superette's Newmarket & Ponsonby stores, Fabric in Newmarket and Jaimie Boutique Ponsonby Rd.

Arcade Fire Being Verrrrrrry Clever
Monday, 06 September 2010 19:41

You've got to check out this brilliant, new, more-then-just-a-music-video from these cats.

Many people view music videos for the first time online, either on Youtube or other video sharing websites, but Montreal band Arcade Fire (who are fricken rad - pictured above, generally just being rad) have really 'taken it to the next level' to use a well worn out cliche to describe something totally creative and fresh.

The Wilderness Downtown is, basically, a website. You type in the address of the house you grew up in - or any address really - and through Google Maps and Street View technology, images and video of your childhood home are incorporated into the music video through use of multiple screens. With the already emotional song 'We Used To Wait' playing as the fitting soundtrack, many people I know have found this quite a moving little 4 or 5 minutes.

Here's a Youtube clip showing someone else try, but if I were you I'd just give it a go yourself at the website, www.thewildernessdowntown.com - HERE

If you're curious about some of the technical wizardry behind the project, leap over HERE to check out a bit more background...

It has to be said that while the music of the Arcade Fire has vintage, almost nostalgic element to it at times, they are not at all afraid to explore their music and creativity within the context of this modern, internet worshipping, world.

This project aside, they also recently broadcast their excellent live concert from Madison Square Garden in New York City live on Youtube. The Big news... YOU CAN WATCH THE WHOLE CONCERT IN FULL on their Youtube channel! All 1.5 hours of it! HERE

Oh and here's a BONUS new Arcade Fire tune that you need to hear if you haven't already, once again from their new album 'The Suburbs'. This is the new music video for 'Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)'.
